Island of Legends

3 days went by so quickly!

Since Lin's sister and her husband are vacationing in Malaysia this month, we've decided to treat my parents in-law to a 4-day-3-night getaway in Langkawi, all expenses paid. We flew Firefly from the Subang Airport last Friday and flew back home today at 3 PM.

We splurged a little on the hotel and stayed at The Andaman. Since my father in-law is a government retiree, we were entitled to the government rate, which was very affordable. Trust me, we won't be staying there if we had to pay the full rate!

We spent most of our times between the pool, the beach, and the restaurant. (Daily breakfast was complimentary.) The weather, fortunately was on our side because it didn't rain the whole time we were there. Daanish thoroughly enjoyed himself going on the slide, it was so hard to get him to stop. The beach was just lovely as the water was clean, clear, and at the right temperature.

Back home, we were told that the seafood in Langkawi don't just taste nice, they're cheap too! So, with that in mind, we ventured to look for the described, but were left disappointed because only the seafood we had on the first night at a place called Shin Mi Seafood Village Restaurant was up to par. And don't even get me started on the prices! Think we may have been to all the wrong places.

I remembered going to the Underwater World Langkawi 17 years ago and it fascinated me for many years after that. I went there again this time and felt like the place should be shut down immediately. It was completely under-maintained! An utter waste of money and time.

We also went on a boat tour to the eagle feeding area. I wasn't impressed much because we didn't really get to feed the eagles. The boatman said that not every boat get to throw chicken pieces in the water, else the eagles would be happily stuffed in the morning and won't come back in the afternoon. And I didn't even get to snap any good, closeup photos of the eagles because we were just too far away from the floating food.

A visit to Langkawi isn't complete without bringing home a couple of hundred ringgits of tax-free imported chocolates. Initially, we were thinking of getting some pots and pans too, but the hassles of packing and handling them just weren't worth it.

Would I go to Langkawi again? Yes, but just for the nice resorts, sun, and sea. And for the cable car because we missed it this time around.
