About

Hi there, thanks for visiting!

I live in Selangor with my beautiful wife, 3 amazing children, who are 11, 8 and 3, and my aunt (from my father's side).

I am an engineer working in the oil and gas industry. I currently work for a Spanish company. No, I do not work on the rig. I do, however, go to the rig occasionally, when situation demands it.

As an engineer, I put in 8 hours a day focusing on ticking-off the to-do list at work. The list usually just gets longer and longer as I go through the week, but I guess that's life.

Don't get me wrong; I love my job, but at the end of each day, the only thing I look forward to is to hangout with my family and play with the kids.

In the past, I've worked with 3 other international companies.

My wife also works in the same industry, but doing a whole different thing. Her office is located in the famous twin towers and is a mere 7-minute walk from mine. So, we carpool everyday. Thanks to the KL rush-hour traffic, we get to spend a lot of time talking in the car.

What Is This Blog About?

I've been blogging since 2005. Back then, the only social media were MySpace, Friendster and an infant version of Facebook. There were no smartphones and the camera phones produced horrible pictures.

I was in the United States finishing my bachelor's degree in engineering.

So, I turned to Blogspot to write down what I was feeling and about moments that I think worth capturing and sharing. I also love web designing and have been experimenting with it since I was 14. I like how having my own blog allows me to be creative at the same time.

Nowadays, my blog is all about sharing snippets of my family life, our adventures, holidays, birthdays, festivities, outings and daily activities. Life is amazing when you are able to find beautiful and inspiring moments in the mundane.

This blog would be the source of anecdotes for my kids when they are older, to care and reminisce for the rest of their lives.

About Me

My parents are both Penangites. My dad is Malay and my mom is Chinese. It is difficult for me to tell people where I actually grew up because we used to move a lot. So, I've been telling people that I am from the North.

I've always hated moving and having to make new friends every time. I went to 5 different schools (not including university). But on the bright side, I have tons of friends all over.

I was born into a tiny, modest family, but nonetheless had a very fun and contented upbringing filled with happy memories. I used to love going to school and eager to finish my homework the moment I got home. Yes, I was kind of a nerd back then.

I didn't have much, but I am very thankful for what I have now.

I don't like to make mistakes. In whatever I do, I will try very hard to get it right the first time.

I am a perfectionist. I've a need for things around me to be properly placed. And by proper, I mean perfectly perpendicular, paralleled or equally spaced-out. For example, the gaps between the hangers in my closet need to be the same throughout.

And to quote Monica (from Friends):

If it's not a right angle, it is a wrong angle.

This compulsion extends to the computer desktop and the naming convention of the folders in my computers. The fonts and vertical spacings in my Word documents need to be consistent. Else, I'd go crazy!

Interests, Hobbies & Talents

I listen to all kinds of music, but my favorites are R&B, Ballads, Pop and sometimes Country. My favorite singers are Michael Buble and Ed Sheeran. I have seen them both in concert and they are amazing performers.

I'm also a fan of Siti Nurhaliza, Anuar Zain and Afgan. Geographically, they are closer to me, but I've yet to see them in concert.

I watch all kinds of movies. I like movies that make you think and keep you thinking even after days of watching them. Some of my personal favorites are Back to the Future, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Gone Girl, Shutter Island and Inception.

I do occasionally enjoy watching horror movies, too.

I don't spend a lot of time watching TV, but when I do, I enjoy watching comedies. My all-time favorite is Friends. I can watch it over and over and laugh as though I'm watching it for the first time. I can also recall most of the lines from the show.

I love to sing. I am a shy person, but believe it or not, I've been singing in public since I was 10. And I'm actually quite good. I've won a few competitions at school and work in the past. I've been requested to perform a lot at weddings and events, but I've only entertained a few. I love karaoke!

I also like to draw portraits, but I haven't been able to draw any since I became a father. I've shared a few of my drawings in my blog posts.

A Little History

My mom was visiting a relative in Kuala Lumpur and had to go into labor. That's how I was prematurely brought into the world, after only spending 7 months in my mom's tummy. My place of birth is now 10 minutes away from where I work.

When I was little, my ambition was to become a pilot, just because how tidy and neat they dress for work. And then, I wanted to be an architect because I love drawing and Math and the fact that I am meticulous and a perfectionist.

That was, until I finished secondary school and got a scholarship to study engineering in the United States. I went to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and graduated summa cum laude in Chemical Engineering. Best 4 years of my life!

And that's where I also met my wife.

Being married to a kind-hearted, smart woman and blessed with 3 kids was the best thing that has happened to me. It has kept me grounded and brought so much joy, laughter, direction and purpose to my life.
