Daanish started Standard 1 last Tuesday (3 Jan 2017). A week before that, he got a major haircut. The long do was gone and Masha Allah, he has never looked more handsome.
I took the whole week off from work to make sure he was alright. Alhamdulillah, my son got through the first week of school extremely well. No drama whatsoever. The first thing I showed him on his first day was how to use the toilet. As far as I can remember, toilets in public schools were never clean and the door locks [almost always] never worked. So, my wife and I were a bit concerned.
Everyday for 4 days, I sent him to school, went to see him during recess, and fetched him from school.

Day 1
Sent him off at the door of the main hall. During recess, he finished all the chicken nuggets and fries he brought from home. (He had an early lunch.) He was already waiting at the canteen when we invited him from school. His shirt was tucked in half-way (only the front), but spotless. Couldn't be prouder!
Found out that he did not make the DLP class.
Day 2
Sent him off at the stairs (as parents were not allowed to go up anymore). During recess, he brought a friend. His desk mate, Haikal. I also met Haikal's mom. He did not finish the chicken nuggets and fries. Insisted on buying a [mango] juice box, but did not manage to finish it before the bell rang. So, I had to finish it.
The hook of his pants came off and accidentally dropped down the toilet bowl. (Poor boy!) He still needs to get used to using the belt though.
Day 3
Attempted to 'spy' on him from a distance during recess, but he eventually saw us. However, he made a few eye contacts and that was it, nothing else. He was with Haikal again. They found empty chairs and he saved Haikal a seat whilst he went to buy his food. (So proud! *Cry*)
He did not finish his wantan noodles, but insisted on buying a box of strawberry milk. Struggled to finish it, but the bell beat him to it. Again, I had to finish it. When it was time to go home, he explained how his name tag came off and broke.
Day 4
This time, he came down for recess with a rather chubby friend, another one of his desk mates. He finished all the cocktail sausages he brought from home. I also met another boy from his class, Syukran. This one seemed a bit too chatty and aggressive. (Should I ask Daanish to keep his distance from this one?) I managed to persuade him to keep all of his money today.
At the end of the day, as we were walking towards the car, Daanish said the day was boring as they sat in the hall the whole day listening to speeches from the teachers. He also mentioned about an incident he had in the toilet; He was ready to pee in one of the booths when his classmate, named Adam Danish kicked the door open and broke its lock. Daanish threatened him that he'd involve the teacher if he continues. The kid then apologized and went on his way.
Daanish looks forward to going back to school this Monday. (I am not making this up. I actually asked him and this came right out of his mouth.)
