Last year, we celebrated Aidiladha in Melaka with the in-laws. The daily COVID-19 cases were consistently below 20.
A week ago, we started seeing the number of cases creeping up to 5 digits. We all knew balik kampung was definitely not going to happen this time. No one was looking forward to another Hari Raya locked up at home.
But as always, we made the best out of the situation.
Makan! Makan!
Back in May, when we celebrated Aidilfitri at home, we somewhat knew that Aidiladha at home was inevitable. So, we stored extra lemang, ketupat and rendang in the deep freezer.
This morning, all we had to do was to heat everything up and we're all set!
Nowadays, Hari Raya is incomplete without my wife's Udang Raya Masak Kuning, a dish she learned to prepare from her mom. It is unconventional, but it allows your palates to rest from overdosing on chicken and beef all day.
Alhamdulillah, we also received many delectable gifts from the neighbors, family and friends. Durian, mangosteen, laksa Johor and pulut kuning, just to name a few. It was impossible to finish everything in a day. I guess our meals for the next couple of days are all planned out for us.
After Makan, We...
Even if you're not going anywhere, it doesn't mean you cannot dress up for Hari Raya. A group family photo is a must. And people are going to see your outfit, albeit just through Facebook and Instagram.
After all the eating, we sat down in front of the TV and watched a Hindi movie, my wife's favorite, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. It was Ayra's first Hindi movie ever and she loved it. She loves watching the dances and couldn't help herself from joining in.
Later, we built an igloo (which ended up looking like a tent) for Aleesa. She's been asking us to build it for her for quite a while now. She was ecstatic!
